Special baggage

Large items of sports equipment, such as surfboards and bicycles are carried upon payment of a surcharge.

If you wish to carry such equipment on board, you must reserve space on board when booking your flight.

All passengers taking bicycles must be fully checked-in at least one hour before departure. Norwegian accepts a maximum of 4 bicycles per departure when the bicycle is not packed in a suitcase suitable for bicycles. When packed in suitcases for bicycles, the limit does not apply and bicycles will be accepted even beyond this limit. The fee for transportation of bicycles always applies regardless how the bicycle is packed. Windsurfing equipment is not accepted.

Passengers must pay the surcharge for oversized baggage at the airport on the day of departure.

Fishing rods cost NOK 216 and must be packed in suitable hard casing/tube (max 15 kg).


There are no refunds for prepaid special baggage.

If you wish to transport a large instrument (eg Cello) in the cabin, you are required to book a seat for the cello by calling our Contact Centre, tel. 815 21 815, or + 47 21 49 00 15 (if outside Norway). The fare payable will be the fare available at the time of booking. Please be aware that a service fee will be charged for bookings made over the phone.

Double basses are only accepted for transport in the hold. Norwegian only accepts 2 double basses per flight. Our standard regulations regarding oversized baggage apply to musical instruments carried on board as baggage). Transport of bicycles, large musical instruments and surf boards must be booked no later than 48 hours before departure, by calling our Contact Centre, tel. 815 21 815 press 2, or +47 21 49 00 15 - press 2(if outside of Norway). Norwegian will accept only four (4) bicycles per flight. Reservations can not be made by e-mail.

The maximum length of specialbaggage is 250 cm.

Norwegian carries sporting guns (hunting, competitions etc.), but only on condition that the bolt (or the stock in the case of rifles) are removed and carried separately from the gun itself. Up to five kilos of ammunition may be transported providing this is packed in the unopened, original packaging. Weapons may only be transported in checked-in baggage, and as long as the check-in personnel are alerted to the presence of any weapons in passengers' baggage.
